Good Morning July 27

About three thousand years ago the Psalmist wrote, “With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. “Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.” (83:3-4) This could have been taken as a quote from today’s newspaper. Such is the opposition by some to the existence of God’s people. But the conflict is even deeper. We are in a spiritual warfare. Satan has never stopped trying to defeat the purpose of God for mankind. He is winning battles in many hearts, but we have the assurance that he will not gain the ultimate victory. Jesus Christ won that victory at the cross. This is our assurance, and the joy in which we live. Yet, we are called to see and understand all that is going on around us. We are to grow more firmly ourselves in God’s truth, to live by that truth even if it is costly, and let that truth be seen in the sacrificial love we share with others. Our prayer concludes, as the Psalmist does, “Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD— that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.” (vs.18)
