Good Morning December 12

In the midst of all our government’s wrangling in recent days we are now told that the parties have reached a budget compromise and the government will not have to be shut down for the next two years. The agreement didn’t solve a lot of problems, but at least it gave the employees some sense of security. In this world we are constantly subject to these uncertainties, whether personal, national, or international. But this is the Christmas Season proclaiming a truth that reaches beyond all of life’s uncertainties. Many years before the event the Prophet Isaiah wrote, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end,…”(9:6-7) The time in which Isaiah lived was also difficult, but he held to the truth God had given him. The promise was fulfilled in the birth of the Christ. Ultimately, the promise will be fulfilled for us when the Prince of Peace reigns over all nations. This is the promise of this season, and the hope to which we hold beyond all the uncertainties of life.
