When I look at a computer screen with its words, figures, and colors, the patterns communicate something to me. The information is to be useful and informative. But what I see is only the surface of the machine. What makes it work, forming all the outward patterns that convey information, is a complex series of electronic circuits and impulses hidden deep within the computer. The same is true for people. What people see in us is only the outward words, mannerisms, and actions we display. But those words, mannerisms, and actions are generated deep within our being, by the thought, attitudes, and convictions we hold. As Christians those thoughts and convictions are to be guided by God’s Word, and our relationship with our Saviour. It is He who changes us from the inside, working in our hearts by the presences of His Spirit. Then, what others see is something of the love and nature of Jesus. As we concentrate on what forms our inward parts, the outward will follow naturally.
