Good Morning May 12

In yesterday’s Gospel reading from John 10 Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full.”(vs.10) The word the NIV version translated “full” means superabundant, excessive, beyond measure. Jesus has come that we may have a life that is beyond measure. What do we think that means? Or how might we define a life that is beyond measure? Many would say sufficient wealth to do whatever we want, happiness in all relationships, status and recognition by others, satisfying accomplishments in life, the list could go on. All of these are nice, but is this what Jesus meant by “full”? John 10 speaks of Jesus as the Good Shepherd. He is one who can be trusted absolutely. In following this Shepherd sheep have complete security, peace, provision, and community. I think the image of John 10 invites us to look beyond whatever we think might be a full life to something even better. Give it some thought. What do you consider a full life?
