Yesterday was Trinity Sunday in our church year. The Holy Trinity, the truth that our one God has revealed Himself to mankind in three distinct persons of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is a truth central to our Christian faith. Can we fully explain one yet three? No, but it is a truth expressed throughout the Bible, and witnessed to in our own lives. Even further, it is the truth of God that shows the incredible depth of His love for mankind. God is our Creator. He has brought us into being for fellowship with Himself. Even when we separated ourselves from Him by our rebellion, He has come to us as our Redeemer to buy us back from death. And He is at work daily as Sanctifier to form us into the good nature of Jesus Christ. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, One God reaching out to us in a depth of love, and for an eternal purpose beyond our full comprehension. Can we explain it? No, but we really don’t have to. We come into that love in joy, and seek to live in ways that bring honor to His name.
