Good Morning
Years ago I served a sort time in a large church in a Washington suburb. On the wall of the room where the church council met they had stenciled the words of the Prophet Micah. “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”(6:8) I have like and made reference to that verse many times since. It was fitting for a church council room where man and women had to make decisions on issues affecting people with a whole variety of biases, personalities, and temperaments. But it is also good guidance for everyone’s walk in life. There is a lot to meditate upon in understanding what it means to act justly in various life situations, to love mercy and display that mercy in words and actions, and to walk in humility with our sovereign God before whom we all stand. In Matthew 22 Jesus reiterated the two great commandments “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”(Vss.37-40) This is our guide for daily life. We don’t do it perfectly. We don’t do it consistently. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ that we have forgiveness, cleansing, and a new beginning. Today is a new day. Let us seek anew to walk in the way of our Lord.
