It has been 2000 years since Almighty God became man in Jesus Christ. 2000 years since He taught, suffered, died an atoning death, was raised again to life, and ascended back to the Father with the promise to return again to earth. In His teaching He gave a number of cautions to “keep watch”, for no one knows the day or hour of His return. But 2000 years! That is such a long time. Why should we watch now? It could be another 2000 years yet. And so it is easy to grow weary in watching, and dull in our caring even for Him to come again. But this is the very thing He cautioned against. We are not obsessed with the Biblical signs, but we are aware of events in our world and how they match things our Lord told us would happen. Even further, the Church is the Bride of Christ. The only natural place for the Bride is with her Bridegroom. Our deepest desire should be for His physical presence. He, alone, is our joy and our hope. We have every reason to be watchful, and to pray for His soon return. Keep watch. This could be the day of His coming.
