Good Morning January 14

We expend great efforts to maintain life. Those efforts are good. God has given us our physical bodies, and we should properly care for them. However even if one’s physical body is in top shape they can be completely devoid of life. The only real life comes from Jesus. He said, “For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.”(John 5:26) We do not have life “in ourselves”. Our life, even our next breath, is given to us by God. When has chooses to withdraw that life we die. The only true life we have comes from Him. Jesus likened this to a vine and its branches. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”(John 15:5) All of the Old Testament Scriptures point to the coming of Jesus, the Christ, and all of the New Testament Scriptures are centered in the grace of life that He brings. Many do not like, and even reject, the exclusive claim that Jesus made in saying, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”(John 14:6) He is simply saying that there is only one source of true life. It comes from God, the Father, through Him. We should work hard to maintain our physical lives, but even more to stay connected to our only source of true and lasting life, Jesus.
