Good Morning September 8

We really like Jesus for His message of brotherly love, and His acceptance of people, especially those outcast by society. The problem is that He didn’t stop there. He talked about sin, the sin we need to fight within us, and what we encounter in the world around us. He said that it was out of the heart that all the evils come. What Jesus offered was not just a path through the world that said “be nice to everybody and things will be fine”. Overcoming sin is a lot harder than this. He told His disciples “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? “(Mark 8:35-36) This is learning to think beyond one’s self to the purpose for which God made us and all people. There is a willingness to set aside one’s personal needs and wants for the good of others. This is not easy or comfortable. It means self sacrifice. This is the way of showing love because Jesus has first loved us and given His life completely for us. It is His love in us and through us that overcomes sin.
