The writer of Hebrews encouraged his people by saying, “let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”(10:23-25) The thrust of what he is saying is that we need one another. Some people will declare that they don’t need to go to church because they can worship God anywhere. But I suspect they usually don’t. People also say that they can commune with God in nature. Well, I can too, but that doesn’t change the fact that I need other believers to strengthen me, to teach me, to correct me, and to encourage me. The world and our part of it needs the touch of our God. We can’t do that as lone Christians. Together we spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
