The year end issue of Time magazine gave an update on a variety of issues in 2015, and predictions for 2016. One area reviewed was the progress made in LGBT acceptance. They said great strides were made in 2015, but foresee a slowdown in 2016. An openly gay member of the Atlanta city council made the remark, “There are limits to [how far] you can move the needle before religion steps in.” Many see progress limited by religion, not only in this area but in other efforts to shape a secular society. However, I object to the word “religion”. Does anyone perhaps consider that there is a real God above this thing they call religion? A God who actually created us, and has a claim upon that which He has made? “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his…”(Psalm 100:3) “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, … Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?'”(Isaiah 45:9) It is not religion that keeps the “needle from moving”, but the God who made us. We may throw all kinds of arguments in His face. We may choose to reject Him entirely. But He will not change to accommodate us. It is long past time that we realized that.
