History is important. We need to see the changes that have come about over past generations. In the short term, the past 30 or so years, we have seen monumental changes in morality, and accepted patterns of life. For many of us, these are not good. They have moved us further away from the good will God has for the people He created. But these changes did not come about out of the blue. They are the product of many past generations of changes. We call it progress, but in reality it is regress. We laud the advances in science, technology, and medicine, but do these really bring us closer to the central purpose for our creation? Twenty six centuries ago the Lord said through the Prophet Jeremiah, “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.”(9:23-24) Our God is a God of great love and mercy, but He has created mankind for His good purpose. I’m afraid we have progressively moved away from that purpose, and in many ways reap the consequences.
