There are all kinds of projections for the future. What will be the state of the economy this time next year? Will the stock market go up or down? When will this or that leader be toppled? Even personally we try to determine what we will be doing next week, next month. We say, this is what will be happening in the foreseeable future. The problem, as we all know, is that the future is not foreseeable. Oh, we do make plans, schedule, appointments, and make projections, but we really do not know what is ahead, as many in the recent and tragic natural disasters learned. James teaches us to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”(4:15) We make our plans, but above all we know that we are in the Lord’s hands. He is the only One who know our future. In the midst of great trouble the Lord said to ancient Israel, “I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) Our Father can be trusted with our future. We can rest in Him.
