Good Morning September 23

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had defied the kings order to bow in worship to the kings statue.(Daniel 3) The King was furious, threatening to have them thrown into a blazing furnace if they did not obey. The response the men gave to the king is important, and has been handed down to our present day. “We do not need to defend ourselves in this matter, O King. Our God is able to save us from the blazing furnace, but even if He does not, we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold.”(vss.16-18) That response, “but even if He does not save us, we will not bow down,” has been on the lips martyrs for the faith through all of the centuries, and in many places of our world today. It is a response we need to ponder in our walk of faith. What are the things of our faith about which we will say, “this far we will go, but no further”? What things of our faith are worth the cost of our lives? We don’t know exactly how we would act in any stressful situation, but we need to consider those things about which we would say, “we will not bow down.”
