Good Morning December 19

We call this the season of peace and good will. People look to this season as a respite from the trials of this world. Who doesn’t like the image of a baby in the manger with his loving parents watching over him. But this is so much more than a temporary season of rest in turmoil, or a sentimental image of the holy family in Bethlehem. We are preparing for the celebration of the incarnation, Almighty God becoming man in the person of Jesus Christ. This was not just a one time action but a truth that live through all generations. God becoming man in Jesus is a reality for all ages. He lived, suffered, died, and was raised again from the dead overcoming the curse and power of death for all time. Jesus is as alive today as He was in first century Israel. Beyond all the decoration and trapping of this season we have the vital truth that Almighty God came to us. Jesus Christ is alive today, extending the invitation, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”(Matthew 11:28-29) This is not a temporary respite, but a daily reality for life.
