Different strokes for different folks. On one of his missionary journeys Paul went to Thessalonica, Berea, and to Athens to preach the Gospel. In Thessalonica the people were contentious and argumentative. In Berea they were willing to search the Scriptures to see if what Paul was saying was correct. In Athens they wanted to philosophize and kick around some new idea. Things really haven’t changed when we try to share the Gospel. Among all of our friends and acquaintances, each hears and receives things a bit differently. Some are Thessalonicans, some Bereans, and so forth. We have the commission, and the desire to share God’s truth with others. But this is why it is often better to not start with words, but with prayer and with actions. As we live our faith, and as we pray for others, God will prepare hearts, and bring to us those who ask about what they see in us. Then we can share what the Lord means in our lives. God can sort out the different folks for us.
