Good Morning January 25

I have thought a lot about the fear of the Lord. It is such an important part of our relationship with our God. The phrase “the fear of the Lord” is stated 21 times in Scripture, and the concept repeated in many other ways. Psalm 111:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom…” In the passage pointing forward to the seven spirits of God which are the characteristics of Jesus, the last of the seven says, “he will delight in the fear of the LORD.”(11:3) We try to understand this by substituting the words awe, and respect, or reverence, but I don’t really think any of these captures the real depth of this aspect of our relationship with our God. The Apostle Peter taught, “Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.”(I P.1:17) This fear is not a terror of one to flee from, but a true depth and bond of love that seeks to bring honor to the Beloved. Give it some thought.
