Good Morning January 30

When I open my e-mail in the morning there are always  a number of ads for various deals. Two thirds of our Sunday newspaper is sales flyers.  There are also some of those noticed that offer “buy one, get one free”. The commercial system, under which we all live, requires that we spend money to keep the system going. But we have also learned the adage   “you only get what you pay for”. This means that if something is cheap or free, it really can’t be worth much. Yet, our faith speaks in exactly the opposite terms. Isaiah said, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”(55:1) And from Jesus, “For God so loved the world that He gave….”(John 3:16) There is a great cost to our faith, but the cost was completely paid by Jesus Christ. The greatest treasure we can ever have is completely free of cost to us. There is nothing we can do to earn it or pay for it. “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ” (Romans 6:23)
