Good Morning February 21

With the tragedies that have occurred in Florida and elsewhere there has been a big flap about people responding with the comment “our thoughts and prayers are with you”. This has been strongly mocked as meaningless and not accomplishing anything of value. I would agree that It must have more depth than a statement on a sympathy card. Thoughts must be serious and struggle through looking for meaningful ways to comfort and strengthen people, and to deal with the root of the problems. And prayers are far from meaningless if they are truly followed through in faith imploring God to surround hurting people with His care, and to overcome the evil that grips so many. We who sit a thousand miles away from a tragic happening can feel helpless to do any good, but thoughts guided by God’s Spirit can lead to positive actions, and serious prayer to Almighty God is a power beyond all human strength.
